Iman Abdulmajid – Pioneering Diversity in Beauty
Celebrating Iman Abdulmajid: The Supermodel Who Changed Beauty Forever
For this week’s Black History Month feature, we spotlight Iman Abdulmajid, a global supermodel and beauty mogul whose contributions revolutionized the beauty industry.
From Supermodel to Beauty Entrepreneur
Iman Abdulmajid rose to fame in the 1970s as a supermodel, breaking barriers for Black women on global runways and magazine covers. Despite her success, she faced a common problem: there were few beauty products suitable for her skin tone.
In 1994, Iman launched Iman Cosmetics to change that. Her brand was among the first to offer a full range of foundation shades for women of color. This bold move disrupted the beauty industry and filled a critical gap for millions of women.
A Legacy of Inclusion
Iman Cosmetics prioritized inclusivity and representation from the start. Unlike other brands that catered primarily to lighter complexions, Iman ensured that her products celebrated the beauty of diverse skin tones.
Her success influenced beauty giants like Fenty Beauty, Pat McGrath Labs, and more to expand their shade ranges and promote diversity in marketing.
Iman's Global Impact
Iman’s vision reshaped beauty on a global scale. Her brand paved the way for more inclusive products and inspired a new generation of beauty entrepreneurs to prioritize diversity and representation.
As we continue celebrating Black History Month, we honor Iman Abdulmajid for redefining beauty standards and inspiring countless women around the world.
